Address Changes for Immigration Purposes
(For general information on address changes, please click here)

All non-U.S. citizens residing in the U.S. are required to be registered with and inform the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), U.S. Department of Homeland Security of their current address.  The law requires reporting any change of address within 10 days of moving.  In addition, USCIS does not forward any mail, including notices, correspondence, and documents related to any USCIS immigration application/petition.

Therefore a current refugee/asylee or former refugee/asylee (a legal permanent resident that received status from being a refugee/asylee) must complete the following when he or she changes his/her address:

Current/former refugees/asylees WITHOUT a pending USCIS application/petition:

 Current/former refugees/asylees WITH a pending USCIS application/petition:

While U.S. citizens who were former refugees/asylees are not required to report a change of address to the U.S. government, if they have applications/petitions pending with one or more USCIS offices, they should notify each office.

Please note that all individuals will need to file a change of address form with the U.S. Postal Service to ensure that all other mail and correspondence is forwarded to the new address.  For more information on this process, please click here.
