Lesson Twelve: The N-400 Application



The Application for Naturalization, N-400, must be filled out truthfully. Your eligibility for citizenship is based on your answers on the form. The N-400 will be compared with other documents you previously filed with the INS or the USCIS.

It is very important to understand all of the questions on the N-400. Your interviewer will have a copy of your completed N-400. You will be asked many questions from the form during your interview. The interviewer is testing your English ability and seeing if any of your information has changed. You may be asked to read part of the N-400 as a way to test your reading ability.

If you do not understand something the interviewer is asks you, you may ask him or her to repeat the question, speak more loudly, or use simpler words.
