Tips for a Successful Interview
1 |
 |
Plan to arrive to the interview
15 minutes before your scheduled time. Before your interview day,
find out the exact location of your USCIS office, where you can park
and how long it will take you to arrive. |
2 |
 |
Dress formally, as you would to a job interview.
Do not chew gum, wear too much perfume or smoke. |
3 |
 |
Look at the officer in the
eyes when you speak and be polite. |
4 |
 |
Use complete sentences rather
than saying just yes or no. This will show the officer
your command of the English language. |
5 |
 |
Speak loudly and with confidence. |
6 |
 |
Use gestures when needed. For example, you
can raise your right hand to explain the word "oath." |
7 |
 |
Know every word on your application. If any
of the information has changed, be sure to let the officer know. |
8 |
 |
If you don't understand something, ask the
officer to repeat the question or to speak more slowly. |
9 |
 |
Respond immediately to the questions the officer
asks. If you don't remember something (such as your social security
number), tell the officer that you will get it for him. Try not to
say "I don't know." |
10 |
 |
Relax and try to do your best. Remember that
the more you prepare, the more comfortable you will feel and the more
likely you'll be to make a good impression. |
